Used
tyres have traditionally been dumped into the ground in
landfill sites and left for future generations to worry
about.
THE
LAW HAS CHANGED! New legislation means that whole
tyres have been banned from landfill from July 2003 and
shredded tyres from July 2006. The new rules come as part
of the EU's Landfill Directive, which will see a ban on
dumping used tyres across the whole of the union.
Did you know...
Each year 40,000,000 tyres are removed from vehicles in
the UK. If all these tyres were placed end-to-end, the line
could stretch from London to Sydney, Australia and then
back again (approximately 21,000 miles) and there would
still be tyres left over!
